Everything You Need for Bulk WebP Conversion

Batch Convert Entire Photo Libraries

Point the converter at any folder and it will move through every PNG and JPG you own. Agencies use it before uploading assets to new websites, launches, or migrations.

Choose Lossless or High-Impact Compression

Lossless mode preserves every pixel for design teams. Website mode balances clarity and speed so developers can push WebP files live without sacrificing quality.

Track File Reductions in Real Time

Live reporting shows original and converted sizes, total savings, and overall reduction percentages. Perfect for client reports and technical SEO audits.

Who Uses This Free WebP Converter?

  • SEO strategists shrink hero images, background videos, and product photography before shipping new landing pages.
  • Performance-focused developers plug the converted WebP files into WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Craft, or custom React builds.
  • Agencies and freelancers deliver faster builds by eliminating hours of manual compression or glitchy online converters.
  • In-house marketing teams use it to reduce storage costs and keep DAM libraries standardized without uploading sensitive assets to third-party websites.

If you manage client performance, you already know speed wins deals. Start with WebP, finish with the Project X framework to rebuild every slow page template holding you back.

How to Run It:

Everything you need ships inside the download. Follow the steps below and you’ll be converting images in minutes.

Step 1: Install everything automatically

  1. Extract the ZIP and open the folder (for example C:\Users\Trevor-Main\Desktop\webp convertor).
  2. Right-click install_dependencies.ps1 and choose Run with PowerShell.
  3. Approve any Windows prompts (choose Open, Yes, or Run).
  4. If PowerShell asks about execution policy, type Y then press Enter.
  5. Wait until you see All dependencies are ready! and the window closes.
  • The script installs Python 3.8+, Pillow, and updates the needed tooling for you.
  • Running it again later is safe, so use it to keep dependencies current.
If the installer shows an error:
  • Grab a quick photo of the full error message.
  • Restart the computer and run install_dependencies.ps1 one more time.
  • If it still fails, follow the manual backup plan below.

Step 2: Start the converter app

  1. Stay in the same folder.
  2. Double-click start_app.bat.
  3. A PowerShell window appears (leave it open) and the “PROJECT X Image Optimizer” window launches. That’s the app.

Step 3: Convert your pictures

  1. Click Browse… beside “Input folder” and choose the images you want to convert.
  2. Select a compression option (Lossless keeps every detail; Website prioritizes speed).
  3. Click Convert to WebP, name your output folder, and pick where it should live.
  4. Watch the live progress bars and review the “File reductions” summary when it’s done.

Step 4: Come back any time

  • Launch the tool again by double-clicking start_app.bat.
  • Run install_dependencies.ps1 occasionally to keep Python and Pillow up to date.

Manual backup plan (only if needed)

  1. Download Python for your OS from python.org.
  2. Run the installer and check Add python.exe to PATH.
  3. Open PowerShell and run:
python -m pip install --upgrade pip
python -m pip install pillow
  1. Return to the converter folder and launch start_app.bat.

That’s it. No cloud. No tracking. Just a small, local WebP converter that respects your workflow.

Free WebP Converter Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Project X Image Optimizer really 100% free?

Yes. Download it, unzip it, and run it without entering an email address, creating an account, or providing a credit card. No limits, no timers, and no watermarks.

Does the converter work on Windows, macOS, and Linux?

It does. The tool runs on any operating system with Python 3.8 or newer installed. The bundled scripts automate setup so you can begin converting instantly.

Absolutely. Lossless mode keeps transparency intact. Designers use it for logos, icon sets, and UI assets where clarity matters.

How big of a speed boost will WebP give my site?

On average, teams see 25 to 60 percent smaller file sizes versus original PNG or JPG assets. That translates into faster First Contentful Paint, better Core Web Vitals, and stronger SEO performance.

Where should I go if I need full-site performance engineering?
